Katelyn Sharpe, DVM
Veterinarian, Medical Director
As long as I can remember, I have always loved animals. My first animal was a rabbit that I received when I was a child on Easter. He was obviously named E.B. (short for Easter Bunny). When I was five, my parents got me a pony for my birthday, which later became my Appaloosa horse named Cherokee Wolf. My love for animals continued, with multiple family dogs, a family cat (Tuff Nut Tom), 4-H rabbits, parakeets, and fish. And because of my love for animals, my dream to become a veterinarian grew! Not to sound cliché, but I became a veterinarian to help animals. Since they cannot tell me where it hurts, it is a puzzle for me to figure out.
My goal with each visit is for the client and patient to be happy. That includes listening, hearing, and understanding the owner’s concerns and questions. It also includes making sure the patient feels safe and not scared. I want to make sure the owners feel as though I am someone they can talk to, like a friend; and for their pets to feel as though they are my own.
I attended Cornell University where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in 2010. I then continued my education at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, in St. Kitts. I finished my clinical year at North Carolina State of Veterinary Medicine.
Outside of the practice, I have a wonderful support team made up of two and four-legged family members. I live with the love of my life, my husband, Alan Colby. We have been together since 2005. He has been through it all with me, including vet school. Our two pride and joy dogs are Rumble and Riot. They are Bernese Mountain Dogs and definitely live up to their names.
